About
My Background. Like many writers, I’m an attorney. Oddly enough, though, I loved practicing law. I worked at a large law firm handling media law cases, then segued to directing the legal writing program at the University of Utah’s law school, and eventually served as in-house counsel for Utah’s human services department. Lots of fascinating issues and congenial colleagues, but through it all, writing has been a consuming interest.
Current Work. I’m seeking representation for my second novel, The Doctor and the Fraud Queen. The story: Kit Conner is a closeted gay surgeon who specializes in treating children with facial deformities. Kit’s mother was a professional con artist who dumped him in the foster care system when he was a kid, and as a result, respect and acceptance mean everything to him. He hasn’t heard from his mother in years, but now she’s in legal trouble and begs Kit for a large sum of money … or else she’ll blackmail him with information she learned when he visited her once thirty years ago. Kit’s efforts to thwart his mother’s schemes end up jeopardizing his professional career, his marriage and the hospital where he works.
Other Work. George Garrett named my short story, “The Half Ship,” as the best story published in Weber Studies that year. My first novel, The Pinball Paradox, received an honorable mention in the Utah Art Council’s Original Writing Competition, and TheatreWorks West produced my short play, “Air Guitar.”
